What are Intensives and why are they so awesome?

I find that once clients begin working through this deeper, nontraditional approach, they often become interested in longer therapy sessions and tend to experience deeper healing through this approach, which allows them to get back into their lives sooner rather than later, as compared to traditional talk-therapy.

Intensive therapy sessions are designed for individuals seeking deeper engagement and faster progress in their mental health journey. These focused sessions provide an immersive experience, allowing clients to explore their emotions, challenges, and aspirations in a supportive environment. Whether navigating the complexities of athletic performance, managing the pressures faced by first responders, or addressing personal struggles, intensive therapy is tailored to meet individual needs. By dedicating time and energy to this concentrated therapeutic approach, clients can unlock new insights, enhance emotional resilience, and foster personal growth, all contributing to improved performance in sports and life.

Whether addressing the mental aspects of injury recovery, improving coping mechanisms for sport anxiety, or enhancing overall mental performance, intensive sessions create a space for profound transformation. This focused approach is especially beneficial for athletes seeking to find their flow state and elevate their game, as well as for first responders navigating the emotional toll of their roles.

These sessions are designed to be flexible, accommodating individual needs and schedules, with options for in-person or online formats. Clients are encouraged to set specific goals for their sessions, ensuring that each intensive meeting is productive and directed toward actionable outcomes. By dedicating time to the intricacies of mental health within the context of sports and performance, clients can achieve significant progress in their personal and professional lives.

What is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting (BSP) was discovered by David Grand, PhD as an advancement of his work in EMDR. While treating athletes and creatives Dr. Grand discovered that "Where you look affects how you feel." BSP is the brain activity, especially in the subcortical brain that organizes itself around that eye position BSP utlizes eye positions and bilateral stimulation to access somatic healing to support clients in processing stress, trauma, and other mental health concerns. During BSP, some clients choose to communicate and others remain quiet, deep in internal processing. There is no “right way” to engage in BSP. This allows clients to become the expert of themselves, learning to trust their innate healing capacity. Interested in learning more? Check out these resources:

Insurance…Why don’t you bill insurance?

I believe in focusing on the interests and needs of the person without being led by insurance companies. I provide private-pay services and have chosen not to interact with insurance companies in or out of network. This allows me to meet clients where they are to provide meaningful, nontraditional therapy options that make sense for each individual client. This includes the ability to offer longer intensive therapy sessions.

Life is full of ups and downs. Adversity is a part of life, and we could all benefit from a little support every now and then. I believe in supporting anyone who desires it and offer services without impacting your (or your child’s) permanent record. I believe that everyone should have access to mental health supports without meeting medical necessity or a formal diagnosis.

My private-pay approach eliminates the requirement of sharing your personal mental health information with insurance companies, allows space for treatment as you see fit, and protects your confidentiality. As a result, our work together does not become part of your permanent record.

What are the risks with utilizing my insurance for mental health services?

  • Confidentiality and Your Permanent Record:

    • Insurance companies require formal DSM mental health diagnosis and “medical necessity” to cover services. This means that individuals at your insurance company will read your personal mental health notes, determine your need for mental health services, and dictates the length and intensity of services. All of this information goes into your permanent record.

    • Your diagnosis (which is required and reviewed by insurance companies) can directly impact insurance premiums, employment, military involvement, & have other negative consequences.

What If I want to use my insurance to cover mental health costs?

Private-Pay is not great for everyone, I totally get that! If you would like to utilize your insurance benefits to cover mental health services, no problem! I completely understand, you’ve worked hard, you're paying for insurance for a reason. By all means, I encourage you to identify a mental health therapist that takes your insurance. There are many great therapists out there! Psychology Today is a great Place to start! You can even search for therapists by the insurance they take! What is the First Responder Helping Professional Discount?

First responders and helping professionals play essential roles in our society by ensuring the safety, well-being, and health of others. Their dedication and commitment make a significant impact on improving quality of life.

This line of work hosts unique emotional challenges. The constant exposure to traumatic events, emergencies, and high-stress situations can lead to various mental health issues such as a dysregulated nervous system, trauma, anxiety, and depression.

The pressure to make split-second decisions and continually absorbing and empathizing with the struggles of others can lead to compassion fatigue, burnout, and vicarious trauma. This can take a toll on quality of life and emotional well-being, directly impacting professional and personal relationships.

It is crucial for first responders to have access to mental health resources, counseling services, and social support to cope with the emotional challenges inherent in their roles. Regular mental health check-ins and self-care practices are essential for maintaining overall well-being and ensuring they can continue to perform their duties effectively.

As a first responder and helping professional, the work you do matters! ...and most of all… You Matter!

  • You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.
